Happy "Devilish" Holidays, y'all!

Howdy gang! The holidays krept up on me once again, and I didn't even have the time to start the art that I would've posted explaining that I never got the finished art to the printer... So, in lieu of a holiday themed greeting, I post two pieces that I was was comissioned to do specifically as holiday gifts. Hope you enjoy!

...and the best heartfelt wishes to you and yours for the happiest of holidays and a wonderful new year!

"We Should be Toasting Absent Friends..."

"... Instead of These Comedians"- Elvis Costello

I can finally show this one, being that it was done as a result of a special request from my pal Airmax (www.airmaxanimated.com) for a special holiday custom figure project. For those who don't know, this is the Comedian from the epic graphic novel "The Watchmen" by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Stop by Airmaxanimated.com to see the entire completed project, and for a chance to win one of these amazing custom action figures done in the style of the DC animated JLU toyline.

Marty Nodell 1915-2006

Marty Nodell, the creator of the Golden Age Green Lantern passed away this weekend at the age of 91. I don't have anything to say that won't be said by other people, being said better by them than I could ever hope to. I only met Marty briefly in "artist alley" at a convention a few years ago, but have been inspired by his greatest creation my entire life. I am reposting an image that was created by Jeff Kilpatrick and myself that I finally sent it to Marty a few months ago. Being that Marty was born and raised in Philadelphia, we thought that we would honor Marty with our own little tribute on behalf of ourselves and the other members of the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society.

Rest in Peace, Marty. You have inspired us all...

Are you happy now, Lou???

A lot in the works, but not too much to show other than this piece here... I'm pretty much only posting this in order to keep my buddy Lou from Geek Boy Press quiet for about 15 minutes or so... This was done on a lark as a tribute to another of my musical heroes, Mr. Tom Waits! His new 3 disk collection entitled "Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards" comes out tomorrow (Nov. 21st), as it shall quickly be added to my x-mas wish list (does anyone else remember the Sears Holiday Catalog? I thought so...) So enjoy until I get more done to post... Choke on it, Lou!!!

How could you not "Trust" this face?

Howdy kids,
Got a little busy, from Baltimore Comic-con then directly to this little project. I was lucky enough to be asked to participate in a group show recognizing beauty and majesty of the original 33 1/3 rpm vinyl album. It's a traveling, reoccurring show that takes place through France, mostly around Paris. I completed this and another "EC" themed piece... To find out more about the show, check out http://ditestrentetrois.free.fr/
But I gotta warn ya, it's in French!

More new stuff!

I finally got around to doing two of the most requested characters of the DC universe. My wife had been naggin' me to finally create a Batgirl, and I know a few other folks that will be happy to see this addition to my collection...

Busy getting my stuff together for the upcoming Baltimore Comic-con coming up in less than two weeks. Here's a new one that I'll hopefully be showing off in artist's alley...

Fun for the Feeble Minded!

Finally finished and at the printer, the cover to my latest mini-comic ready for the world to see! "Fun for the Feeble Minded!" is 4 of my stories previously released elsewhere collected with some color pieces, a new story by Dave "Li'l Scamp" Perillo, and some pin-ups from the likes of Tom Whalen, Tom Rebello, and the "Ausible" Jeffro Kilpatrick... This will be available for sale at the Baltimore Comic-Con. C'mon down and check us out...

I left my heart in Milwaukee...

Hey all,
Just returned from a fantastic trip to one of my favorite cities: Milwaukee, Wisconsin! After many beers, brats, and more beers, I'm happy to be home... This latest installment shows a poster that I scrambled to get done the night before departing for the airport for a local band named Kill the Signal... They seem to dig it, and I hope you do, too...

The Golden Age...

Here's another one of my "cutesy" hero pics, this time it's the Golden Age Green Lantern... This starts as a sketch, which is scanned and traced over using either Illustrator or Freehand, depending upon my mood...

Hero Worship

This is a piece that I did with my good pal and artist extraordinaire, Jeffro Kilpatrick, as a tribute to Marty Nodell, the creator of the original Green Lantern. Jeffro drew the children and the cityscape behind them. I drew the rest, then inked and colored it using Dr. Martin's dyes (not to be confused with Doc Marten's boots) I'll be sending the framed original to Mr Nodell this week...

...Cuz he's a big bloke!

Here's a little something I came up with after listening to Elvis Costello for 20 years... I love music that puts graphic images in my head... and, well I just like drawing skulls wearing hats... Enjoy...

Here's page 2 of My Skankin' Ape story...

After finishing my 5 page story, I took a good couple of days off from drawing, and started taking care of some much needed work around the house... I've got some fun stuff on the way, but in the meantime, here is a little more of the story that will appear in the PCS anthology: book 2

Monday, April 10, 2006

Sorry I've been away... Just finished up my 5 page story for the next Philadelphia Cartoonist Society Anthology: Book 2, available soon at WizWorld Philly, MOCCA, SPX, and any other Philly area show worth going to... Take a look, and let me know what you think...

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night....

As you continue to visit this here blog, you'll begin to understand that I am a big fan of the Green Lantern.... I did this a few months ago on a whim with some brush/pen and ink and Prismacolor markers... I had a lot of fun working on it, and was quite pleased with the result... Let me know what you think...

My grand debut....

Finally, I have begun my journey into the technological paradise that is the 21st century... After an all too brief visit with friends in Hoboken, NJ (Sorry, Matt...) I return home to find that my new blog has been created (Thanks, Matt!)

Check in often for sketches, complete illustrations, rants, raves, and reviews of anything and everything having to do with pop-culture: Movies, Music, Comics, Cartoons, whatever....

The above post came about as a result of helping out a buddy with putting a cover together for his upcoming 'zine "Free 4 All", and being rewarded by the aforementioned friend with a full page to do whatever I wanted with it... Upon completing the finished black and white image (If it was printed in full color, it would be a magazine), I heared this thing screaming for color (it was screaming, I heard it!). So a few hours and a hand full of prismacolor markers later, this baby popped out...
