Disney's "Tangled" limited edition at DarkInkArt.com

Hey all! Let's end 2014 with one last project, shall we? Been sitting on this one for a while, as it's my premiere design with ACME Archives Direct & Dark Ink Art, giving me the privilege of doing an OFFICIALLY licensed DISNEY screen print based on the animated feature TANGLED. This is a 6 color, 12" x 36" screen print, signed and numbered edition of 200, available for $50 each.
ACME/Dark Ink Art have quite a "toy box" to play in, holding licenses for companies such as Disney, 20th Century Fox, LucasFilm, DreamWorks, Saban & more... I look forward to a fun partnership with them, as I strive to do justice to some of our favorite pop-culture properties.

Today sees the drop of not only my "Tangled" screen print, but also TWO prints by good pal and super-talented artist, Dave "Montygog" Perillo; "Peter Pan" & "Little Mermaid"

Crazy 4 Cult returns to L.A., 12/12 at Gallery 1988

CRAZY 4 CULT RETURNS TO L.A. THIS FRIDAY AT GALLERY 1988! This friday, December 12th sees the return of Gallery 1988's flagship annual art show, "CRAZY 4 CULT" to Los Angeles after 2 seasons in NYC. I was honored to (once again) be invited to participate in one of the most anticipated pop-culture group shows of the season.

A feature of this year's exhibition is the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Kevin Smith's "CLERKS". Being a Jersey boy myself, and a huge fan of Kevin's films, selecting a film to pay tribute to was a "no-brainer". Portraying the scene-steeling characters of "Jay and Silent Bob" as "Jersey Devils", this is a set consisting of two, 12" x 18" 3 color screen prints, signed and numbered edition of 50, sold as a set ONLY for $50.

If you're in L.A. this weekend, I highly recommend checking out the show. With over 100 artists paying tribute to their favorite "cult" films, there's bound to be something to appeal to even the snobbiest of film snobs. The opening reception takes place Friday night, 7-10pm at 7308 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. For more details:

Masterbuilders Union on Teefury.com, 12/4

Hey all,
This week I finally make my (triumphant?) return to Teefury with an all new design, just in time for the holiday season. Born and raised in the 70s on the legendary Dutch brand of plastic "building blocks", the past few years have seen a resurgence in toys aimed at helping children to "play well", especially with a major motion picture breaking all sorts of box-office records this summer. I came up with the idea for this shirt one afternoon after wondering "If there are all of these 'Masterbuilders' out there, wouldn't they have formed a union or something?" The rest, they say, is history...

This design goes live at 12:00 am, Thursday morning on December 4th on Teefury.com, and as always, it will only be available for 24 hours. For more details, go to http://teefury.com

Hey Ho, Let's Go!.... to Gallery 1988 on December 5th for 33.3!

t

A lot of stuff coming to fruition this week, which means I finally get to share some fun stuff with the world at large! Later this week, at Gallery 1988 (East) in Los Angeles will be the opening reception of "33 & 1/3: The Half Mark of the Beast" art show, celebrating the art of the album cover as reimagined and reinterpreted by over 100 artists. As an artist who gets much inspiration from all kinds of music, I couldn't say "no" to this project, although putting together my ideas in a coherent, "pleasing to the eye" design was tougher than I had thought it would be... I've done several pieces based on the work of the legendary "Ramones" over the years, and I figured it was as good a place as any to start. As I started working I changed my mind several times, going back and forth between different albums, in addition to changing ideas altogether. It finally started to come together as I settled on the idea of doing the cover to "Road to Ruin" as if it were a jazz or pop album from the late 50s or early 60s. I'm happy with the way it came out...

If you're in the L.A. area, on Friday, December 5th, head down to Gallery 1988 East at 7021 Melrose Avenue for the reception from 7-10 pm. It should be a hell of a show, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the other artists came up with.

The premise of the show is for each of the over 100 illustrators involved to reimagine and reinterpret their favorite album covers, and if the post card images below are any indication, it's going to be a hell of a show... I'll reveal my piece a little closer to the night of the show. Stay tuned!

Shaun of the Dead screening, 8/1/14 at Colonial Theatre

Anyone who knows me is aware of the passion that I have for this brilliant piece of celluloid, so when the "First Friday Fright Night" folks at the historic Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania asked if I was willing to design a poster for the 10th Anniversary screening of the film, how could I say "no"? This is a property that I've paid tribute to several times before, so coming up with a new idea was a little tougher this time. I figured, "Why not just keep it simple?" and do a straight foreward cartoon-esque representation of the protagonist?

If you're in the Philly area, come on out to the Colonial on Friday, August 1st, and join us in the fun of celebrating 10 years of the greatest "Rom Zom Com" ever...

VALVEMAN.com logo & character designs

I was approached by a local company that creates valves and process control equipment. They were looking to expand into the 21st century with a new venture where they would offer their product for quick and easy purchasing on the internet, and hence Valveman.com was born! As a result of the name "Valveman", they were looking for an almost "super-heroic" type of character to represent their company, adding a fun aspect to their new web presence...

Unsung Philly.com logo designs

Here are some logos that I designed for good pal Mike Zolomij over at UnsungPhilly.com, a website that features mini-documentaries on some of the Philly-area's little known heroes. The people in these short films have one thing in common: They each possess their own personal passions, the thing that gets them out of bed in the morning and keeps them going all day, every day. Mike and I bounced quite a few ideas around when it came to designing these logos. We tried showing visual representations of Philadelphia in a few instances, whether it be a silhouette of the Liberty Bell, or featuring the skyline of the city itself, to no avail... Finally we decided on a clean, bold typeface (Rockwell) and overlapped white letters over black, making use of the negative space in each of the black letters. The whole thing really just fell together nicely. To find out more about Mike and Unsung Philly, go to Unsungphilly.com

"Trap 'Em All" shirt available again on Teefury.com

In light of the recent passing of Harold Ramis, Teefury.com has once again made "Trap 'Em All" available as part of their "Gallery" collection, which highlights highly demanded shirts from past daily offerings.

Tom Kurzanski, art director at TeeFury.com, had this to say about a comedy legend:

"Growing up, Egon Spengler was the Ghostbuster to whom I could relate. Venkman was the player, Stantz was the dopey geek, Winston was the everyman voice of reason. Spengler embodied the socially awkward, book smart individual: the deadpan wallflower with no filter. I’m no genius parapsychologist, but I saw myself in there. I built my own PKE meter from an old battery tester, put together a makeshift proton pack from a backpack and old toys and made mini movies with my sister and my friends. I immersed myself in books, mythology, comics, and art. I grew up and continued to pursue my passions, outsider or not, without regret or remorse. Egon helped me to understand that I could be included, be part of a cohesive whole, and do something with meaning without having to conform to what society dictates as “normality” and made me laugh while doing it.

Harold Ramis was a remarkable comedic writer, director and actor. His humor seeped into our collective consciousness and helped many of us embrace our inner geek. One of our classic TeeFury designs “Trap Them All” by the outstanding artist Scott Derby (nakedderby) is a fitting tribute to the man and the character. I hope you agree."
